Now there are a few reasons behind this decision. My sad budget being the main one but also, there are thousands of dealerships out there so part are readily available and and at an affordable price. Also, the V-Strom has been on the market for a decade now and, even for it's flaws, it's a proven machine.
I must admit the Triumph Tiger I test rode was a very comfortable bike but I just didn't feel it was going to be able to handle the off road riding that I hope to be doing.
The BMW F800 GS or R1200 GS and the KTM 990 which are at the top of the adventure riding game yet, not only the bikes but the parts are beyond my budget. Even with all of the amazing engineering that has gone into those bikes there are still break downs making them outside of my Mr. Fix-it skills.
With a good selection of after market accessories and the ability to carry a heavy load. The V-Strom, I believe, is the right machine for me. Of course that being said, it is a very personal choice that each of us riders have to make them selves. I'm confident that many would disagree with me on my selection.
I on the other hand am very happy with it and plan to put several thousands of miles on it.
